However, it does not, unless I go through the steps outlined here.I tried it on my pc based laptop and the software that comes with it wouldn't load on WindowsXP. You must use a firewire cable to download video from the camera. Choose an HD video option in the dialog box that appears, and then click "OK" to launch the Import window. I had the camera set to PC (because I thought it meant computer in general) but the fix was to have it play!!!!!

how comes ? one thing i found out that the program system profiler shows the panasonic usb connection. I just don't understand why it is not working. in all possible operation modes.

My guess is that the Panny has the mini firewire port on it. Please type your message and try again. Can you check the camera with another computer or check the cable or check the FW800 port on your Mac (which exact model do you have)?
